In the summer 2019 I did an internship at La Perla and until then I didn’t believe in phrases like „horse of my heart“ or „didn’t look for but found it“. Well, what can I say, I was proven wrong and left the stud 3 months later with the best horse of the world. I cried probably 500 million tears and for sure made the most formative experience of my life.
Lirio, a 4 years old stallion, which grew up „wild“, was going to be sold at the horse auction in September. He had the last stall on the right side, but the water hose was not long enough to fill up the buckets. Therefore we had to fill them up by hand twice a day. While most of the other horses were already quite open to people, Lirio preferred to press himself against the wall with panic in his eyes when you approached him. And then 10 seconds after you filled up the buckets he decided it is just overrated and spilled it on the floor. When he was supposed to get a little turn out in the arena to move a bit, he decided it is just boring and jumped over the arena fence, which is quite high.
But when I started to work with him, I finally realised that I never met a horse like him, which is so sensitive and at the same time level headed. So I had no choice but leaving Spain only with him. The way how the horses are raised and how they make their first experience with humans couldn’t be more perfect than at La Perla with Leonie. And without a doubt all the horses have an incredible character. Without the support of the whole La Perla Team I probably would not have followed that crazy idea of buying such a horse as a student. And what can I say, it was by far the best decision I have ever made. Well, the day of the auction was the worst day in my life, but at the same time the best and with a lot of emotions all at once. So it happened to be the most expensive “nod” in my life so far, with many tears and close to complete meltdown. “Lirio” is and always will be the perfect horse. Everytime when I look at him I ask myself, how on earth do I deserve to be that lucky?
